Here's an example of many members of the body of Christ working together to reach some poor people in Honduran villages. Many of them can't afford medical care. We did these health posters to show them some ways to avoid getting sick, things they could do at little or no cost.

My father, Clifton Carl McCormick, served with the US Army in the South Pacific during World War Two. He was in the Philippines and New Guinea among other places. This photo was in some of his stuff when he returned from the war. I inherited it when my dad died. I have no idea who it is, whether it was someone he knew or if it was just a photo he picked up somewhere. I'm hoping someone will see this photo and be able to read the inscription on the back. Maybe it tells who the people are, and maybe some of their relatives are living who would want the photo back. I'll be waiting to hear.

In Puerto Cortes, Honduras the city dump is a residential section. This is where the very poorest of the poor live and eke out a living, salvaging any number of items considered by others to be worthless, displaying the more useful objects in little piles by the roadside, hoping to make a sale to passersby. The dump has since been moved from the site pictured here, and the city has given materials for building simple dwellings to the people who lived here and wish to move to the new site. Many of the city's leaders are Christians, who do what they can to provide physical help, and they encourage the churches to provide what only the church can bring...Good News of a better and eternal life.

In 1995 I was invited by a Southern Baptist missionadry to come to Mali, French West Africa, to produce some posters that the missionary could use to teach a group of mothers how to improve the health of their families. I went from courtyard to courtyard (where all family activities take place), sketching and making photographs that would allow me to make authenic drawings. With all the cooking utensils scattered on the ground, it isn't hard to see how food can become contaminated.
